In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test as there are various pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start if the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, Cost Of Audi Key Replacement as i believe that i've eliminated everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or replacement car key Audi parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good news is that they are very cheap and easily accessible particularly in the case of a Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission in your Audi Car key holder, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or audi a3 Key fob slowly the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost and then sends it on to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is a standard part that is found across the audi a3 replacement key 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
